Trivial Thrills

I had been waiting in the Administrative block of MG University since morning to get my equivalency certificate. I helplessly joined the band of commoners who were at the mercy of busy officers. Three hours had lapsed. But there was no sign of getting my paper signed. Technology was equally helpless in rescuing me from the boredom that set in. The block seemed to have some kind of aversion to the much popular Reliance Jio network (if you know, you know ๐Ÿ˜€).

There were other people like me who waited on the benches. Some were accompanied by babies whose innocent smiles came as a fresh ray of sunshine as I combated ennui. And as I sat aimlessly,  looking at the small lawn in front, I noticed a teeny tiny sparrow busily making its nest. I had seen nests before, but not the interesting process of building one. The little bird captured my undivided attention. It flew about and stealthily took tiny bits from another unfinished nest. Every time the bird flew and landed on the ground to take a piece of straw or dried leaf, it looked around to make sure none was watching. And in a split second it was again up in the sky, on its way to designing its dream dwelling. I was completely drawn towards its mannerisms and swift yet intricate movements.

I guess this is how nature has casted its spell on many a poets of yesteryears, who were mesmerized by simple brooks, soothing sound of birds or a star studded sky that seemed commonplace to others. When everyone including me tries to replace our moments of inactivity by plunging into virtual world, one forgets that nature is just one glance away. We have somehow shut ourselves to its charm. One need not visit resorts with artificial ambience of nature. Open your eyes and ears, moreover yourself to the charisma the greenery offers. The happiness of chatting(tapping) away on those devices lasts but a second but the joy of nature stays eternal. Its impact is deep and can always be revisited. It comes when least expected and can change the way we perceive things that one often takes for granted.

So…open yourself to what nature can do to you. Inhale the magic and tell me how you are transformed.✨

  1. Soo agree with you on this. This disconnect from nature is at the source of many of our emotional imbalances. Great write up. ๐Ÿ˜€
